Funding Your Music Project - The Importance of Grants

Let’s face it, finding the money to invest in your music can be stressful; however what many artists don't realise is that there are local, state and federal grant programs available to help. From creating new work, attending professional development opportunities, to touring your music, there is a funding program to suit. You just need to know where to look and how to get started.

Where to look

Start with your local council. Head to their website and research the grant programs they offer. You can generally find this information under their community section. Each State and Territory across Australia has Arts & Cultural Programs that provide funding programs.

First, try your local council and then check out;

Nationwide: Australian Council for the Arts
Victoria: Creative Victoria
Queensland: artsQueensland
New South Wales: Create NSW
Australian Capital Territory: artsACT
Tasmania: Arts Tasmania
South Australia:Arts South Australia
Western Australia: Culture and the Arts WA
Northern Territory: Arts NT

How to get started

Your Project

Have a clear vision of your project, the outcomes you want to achieve and a budget. Ensure you cover every aspect of your project and respond to the program criteria, keeping in mind the '5 W’s' - Who, What, Where, When & Why.

The Guidelines

Read the program guidelines so you know if you and your project are eligible and how much you can apply for.

Contact the Project Officer

Pick up the phone and call the Project Officer. They will offer invaluable advice on your project so that your application has the best chance of a successful outcome.

Support

Gain support, collaborate and ensure you provide all of the support material, in the correct format that the application asks for. If you require further help with this, I offer mentoring sessions and you can read all about that here https://kadencegroup.kartra.com/page/LGYSMWorkbook

If you are unsure if you need mentoring or a grant writer to do the job for you, let’s chat. Book a free 15-minute info call here
